Synopsis

Hogy Vagy, Hungary! Unlike the French and the Germans, the Hungarians developed a strong musical culture that came from the common folks instead of the 17th-century courts and churches. Their characteristic gypsy bands were so popular and entertaining that this passionate, virtuosic and earthly music has become the iconic Hungarian style that everyone recognises instantly – even if they dislike it and don’t consider it to be “serious music” in an appropriate setting.

In the early 20th century, Zoltán Kodály and Béla Bartók systematically searched for and recorded thousands of “authentic” Hungarian folk songs. Did they manage to redefine the Hungarian style? You tell us! Join us to celebrate winter with a vibrant selection of Hungarian music!
