The Consulate General of Hungary in Hong Kong and Macao will screen the award winning Hungarian film 'Ambassador to Bern' on the 61st anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution. The screening will take place from 7pm on the 25th October, 2017 in the Lecture Theatre of the Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre (7A, Kennedy Road, Central, Hong Kong). There will be Hungarain goose liver and wine tasting in the lobby from 6.30pm. Admission is free, all are welcome.
The film is based on a true story. Two young Hungarian men left the country and fled to the West after the 1956 Revolution. But two months later they decided to enter the Hungarian Embassy by taking advantage of the abscence of several embassy members, and tried to force the ambassador to pass them a codebook. The Hungarians wanted to use the code to connnect to the broadcast and voice out the supression they have experienced. As the Swiss police surronded the building and and a group of Hungarian immigrants showed up on the street to demonstrate, a tense and twist-filled hostage drama played out behind the closed doors of the embassy...
